Our story by the bay

Discover the story behind events at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, Geelong’s iconic waterfront club with a rich sailing history and versatile event spaces overlooking Corio Bay

Where maritime heritage meets a vibrant modern precinct

With a long-standing history at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, Events by RGYC sits at the heart of one of Geelong’s most iconic and active waterfront destinations. Set within a busy, working marina and deeply connected to the local community, our spaces are part of the everyday rhythm of sailing, social connection, and waterfront life.

Building on the Club’s rich maritime heritage, from the historic Clubhouse to the Victorian Sailing Centre, our venues blend tradition with modern functionality, all framed by sweeping views of Corio Bay.

From intimate gatherings to large-scale celebrations, every event is delivered within a living waterfront precinct that reflects the energy, character, and spirit of Geelong’s maritime identity.

A legacy on the water

For more than a century, the Royal Geelong Yacht Club has been a place where people gather to share experiences on and by the water. Our spaces tell stories of generations of sailors, families, friends, and communities coming together to celebrate, compete, and connect.

Our story began in 1859, when local sailors first gathered to explore the waters of Corio Bay. Those early enthusiasts organised spirited regattas, creating a culture of competition, camaraderie, and community that has endured for generations.

In 1924, the Club received the Royal Warrant from King George V, formally recognising RGYC and cementing its place in Australia’s sailing history. Over the decades, the Club has expanded its marina, developed modern facilities, and nurtured countless sailors, balancing tradition with innovation.

Our Club’s waterfront location, iconic architecture, and vibrant marina provide both a physical and cultural backdrop to these moments, creating memories that linger long after the event ends.

These occasions have become a cherished part of RGYC’s story, reflecting the Club’s enduring spirit of community, camaraderie, and celebration on the waterfront.
